Melbourne jobs from the DLF mailing list

29 Mar

Hi

There’s actually some Melbourne content coming through.  I trust if you’re looking for industry work you’ve signed up to the DLF mailing list, but in case you haven’t:

Game Asset Creator

I am looking for a freelancer to create some game ready assets for import to UDK. Preferably work on site in Collingwood.

Low poly asset clean up and lod creation.

Immediate start.

Please email Cameron Crichton <subzero@aanet.com.au (subzero null@null aanet NULL.com NULL.au)> with your reel, availability and rates.

Hunter | Art Director/Designer | Melbourne

If you’re a smart, talented and amazing art director/designer, with strategic nous and creative flair, who loves a challenge and wants to be a key instigator in an evolving creative department, then this could be for you.

We’re a young creative agency with a digital heart, an office in Melbourne, one in Auckland and a large meeting room up there in the virtual world. Being so young and nimble, things can get slightly chaotic at times, but with our small (and growing) list of entrepreneurial clients it’s mostly fun. The integrated work ranges from digital and the more traditional to documentaries and events.
Ideally you’d have a minimum of three years agency and/or graphic design experience and a degree of some kind. Be multi-dimensional (i.e. understand digital as well as normal 2D design), have knowledge and understanding of the production process, be a team player, be eager to learn and share your ideas and knowledge and have an attitude like David taking on Goliath.

Bonus points:
- Brilliant presentation and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficient with a mac and all related programs making you efficient with your time
- And finally, have a clear idea of what you can bring to the table not only for the agency but also for our clients

Apply at The Loop - http://www.theloop.com.au/app/job_board/job_detail/Art-Director-Designer/Melbourne/2284 (http://www NULL.theloop NULL.com NULL.au/app/job_board/job_detail/Art-Director-Designer/Melbourne/2284)

As always, all care, no responsibility and feel free to send us feedback on your experiences with any applications.

April Meetup -TIM update and speaker venue change

29 Mar

Hi all

As you may know, we’re having our next meet-up:

Tuesday 5 April at Cho Gao, Level 3 Melbourne Central.

We like to call it TIM (Transmedia IGDAM Mashup) which includes Jarrad Trudgen, lead designer at Iron Monkey talking about developing Dead Space for iPad

Due to the massive response to this event,  full details in previous blog post, and the AWESOMENESS of the State Library of Victoria, we will now have the talks in the fabulous SLV Experimedia Space.

So, here’s the plan

6pm or thereabouts, head to Cho Gao (http://maps NULL.google NULL.com NULL.au/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org NULL.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=cho+gao&fb=1&gl=au&hq=cho+gao&hnear=Melbourne+VIC&cid=2111061854907522654) for a pre-talk drink.

At 6.50 we’ll head across to the State Library (http://www NULL.slv NULL.vic NULL.gov NULL.au/visit/how-get-here) for talks to commence at 7pm (note this is a bit earlier than usual).

The talks by Jarrad and Carl will run for about an hour, be on a great screen with a decent sound set-up and room to wriggle, and be made of awesome!  Afterwards we’ll head back to Cho Gao for further ‘networking’.

Please share the news to ensure everybody knows the deal.

Hope to see you there :)

48 hour project – postponed :(

23 Mar

We got some sad news from the Ryans today about the 48 hour project:

“We have some bad news. It really hurts us to do this but we are going to have to postpone the 48 hour project indefinitely and look to restart the project sometime later on the year.

Although we are really excited by the concept and have been really proud of everyone’s enthusiasm it is too risky for us as a new business to go ahead with the venture.

After evaluating what we want to achieve with the project and what it will require from us on a production level we have concluded that the costs and time spent on the project on our end could possibly ruin us as a company before we even start!

We will look to restart the project later on in the year after we have released a few games and stabilized our earnings enough that we can afford to spend the necessary time on the project.

Thank you for your participation so far. This very much sucks for us, we have been very excited about this idea since its conception. We will bring it back though we promise!

Good luck to all of you and we look forward to getting drunk with you at the next IGDAM meet up. ” – Ryan K

Wishing the Ryans every success in their new project so the 48 hour project plan can be re-invented for the future

48 Hour Game Project Update

16 Mar

Here’s the latest goss on the 48 Hour Game Project, straight from a Ryan’s mouth:

“Hey Everybody,

I’ve come to tell you about our project, the 48 Hour Project and how we want YOU to get involved

The 48 Hour Game project is an experimental development project that has been started by Anomalous Interactive in Melbourne. We will be creating a full release iOS game over a series of 48 hour challenges. So if you know what goes on with the 48 hour game competitions, we are taking that concept of being shut up in a room for 48 hour straight hours developing and using that as a development cycle for our major project of the year.

We’ve formed a team of IGDA Melbourne members who will be working directly on the project with us but we want as many people to get involved as possible!

We have a website up at www.anomalousinteractive.com/48hour.html (http://www NULL.anomalousinteractive NULL.com/48hour NULL.html) that will soon become a hub for our project’s community. We will have forums set up soon where we want YOU to get involved and tell us EXACTLY what you want to see us develop.

So if you think of the competitions, where at the start all the contestants begin with a given theme, well we want anyone whos interested in what we are doing to help us work out our theme.

So check the website out and stay tuned for updates.

You can also follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/48hoursProject (http://twitter NULL.com/48hoursProject) or Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The-48-Hour-Project/191610540870585 (http://www NULL.facebook NULL.com/#%21/pages/The-48-Hour-Project/191610540870585)

or shoot us an email at 48hours@anomalousinteractive.com (48hours null@null anomalousinteractive NULL.com)

Cheers!

~ Ryan Keable”

Contract Jobz @ Tantalus

16 Mar

Tantalus have four contract positions available.  I’m not sure how long they are for (if I find out I’ll add a comment to this post).

As with all jobs, it’s up to individuals to check out the full details, it’s an all care no responsibility deal from this end.

3x 3d modeller/ 2d artists … it’s for a DS game, so it’s all low poly work on Maya, and applicants would need previous experience as it’s a license and a noob would get swamped by the pace of this one.

1x Game designer … the person will need really good written skills as it gets pretty client facing as quite a bit of it is writing up and pitching ideas.

Job descriptions and details of how to apply are available from the Tantalus website (http://www NULL.tantalus NULL.com NULL.au/jobs NULL.html) (http://www NULL.tantalus NULL.com NULL.au/)

TECH CALL OUT- METAVERSE MAKEOVERS

15 Mar

METAVERSE MAKEOVERS is a series of live performance installations integrating the latest in live-video processing and augmented reality enhanced projections.

Three works will be presented site-specifically in the hyper-colour environments of beauty salons, saunas, and nail parlours across 2011 and

transformed into an online 3D gaming experience in 2012.

The first reveal of METAVERSE MAKEOVERS will take place as part of the Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival March 19th & 20th- in the mirrored environment of the Fur Salon, City Square- creating an infinitely refracting augmented reality through new investigations and hacks with the open-source drivers and 3D scanner system of the Kinects camera.

We are still looking for a few pieces of equipment to make the audience viewing of the work seamless- namely 5 plasma screens for our panopticon and a data projector. Any leads or loans appreciated, insured and repayed with invitations and aura inspired cocktails on the evening.
