Game Jam, and January Meeting (11/1/11)

Tweet (https://twitter NULL.com/share)

Hey all,

GAME JAM IS ALMOST HERE! We’re all very excited to be bringing this to you, and it’s looking to be EPIC. It’s not too late to be a part of the fun, but places are extremely limited so get in asap.

Use the form below to register all your details if you want to take part in the Jam , which is being held on January 28th to 30th at La Trobe University, Bundoora (and come on, who doesn’t want to be part of it?)

Make sure you come along to this Tuesday’s meeting (11/1/11, 7:30pm to 10pm, at 3 Degrees bar (an over-18′s venue) in QV, Melbourne CBD). We will be giving out all the goss on what will be happening over the weekend, who might be popping in to observe (special guests aplenty), and who the judging panel will be as well. It’s also a great chance to meet other people who will be at the Jam, and see who you may end up working with.

Even if you’re not going to be jamming, come along for a chat with your fellow devs, and see what everyone’s been up to over the summer break.

Any questions, email us on info@igdamelbourne.org and we’ll get right back to you.

UPDATE: Registrations have closed, as of Tuesday 18/1/11 at 5pm. No further applications will be accepted after that time. We’ve had a huge show of interest in the event, and it’s looking to be great! We’ll be in touch with registered jammers directly via email.

    I plan to bring my own computer but may require a keyboard, monitor and mouse (these were said to be provided, at the discussion that was held at the Tuesday meetup).

    Greetings one and all.

    My name is James Filippone, i’m an RMIT Digital Arts (with games focus) graduate, armed with the following skills in my creative arsenal:

    -Animation
    -2D art and concept drawing
    -Texturing
    -Game design
    -Game dev

    My 2 strongest skills are game design and 2D art, though i’m also a competent texture artist and can fill any role that is relevant to my skillset.

    My specialty is character design; my school of thinking for character design is, that characters should be designed to be simple and charistmatic, with their emphasis being on key ‘flair’ items/features that distinguish them, as well as having a unique and easily identifiable silhouette. Too often do we see character designs that are simply ‘guy in space armour’, that blend seamlessly into a crowd of monotony.

    I’m very passionate about games, even to the point that i love thinking up rule sets for board games and card games in the time i have to myself.

    Let’s make some awesome stuff together, people!

    -James

    @craig

    Yeah, sorry, I completely misinterpreted the application process. Ignore the comment above completely, I’ve since filled out the form and requested a machine as i’m unsure if my computer will be in a state suitable in time for the games jam. If it turns out i can bring my machine, will this pose any problems?

    @James Filippone
    Hey James,

    no problem at all, you’re on our list now, so it’s all good :-)

    No worries if your PC is okay on the day. It’s just a matter of having a good estimate of how many La Trobe PC’s we need ready to set up in the right spots on the day, based on how the teams are formed.

    Hey Craig,

    We spoke at the IGDA meet up last week. I’ve been so busy I completely forgot to register!

    Is there still any ANY chance to still register?!?

    Massive fail on my behalf
